GRACE WALKER meet the athlete
I attended Houghton college in NY and majored in Business as well as Equestrian Performance. While on the East Coast, I worked and trained under Susan Barisone Gilson at SBG Dressage. I have my USDF Bronze Medal and I am an A Pony Club Graduate with the Dressage track. Currently, I am a young dressage professional in the Del Mar area assisting Marie Medosi at Arroyo Del Mar.
My current up and coming competition horse is a 2014 Oldenburg Gelding imported from Germany named Frantz. I aim to compete him in the USEF young horse 4-year old classes this year.
Short term aspirations is to train and compete my current young horse successfully through Grand Prix, and long term aspirations are to compete at the highest international levels of dressage.
NOTES FROM FITNESS TRAINER
Grace and I work out once a week and together we are focusing her training on strengthening her right side of the pelvis and core.
Over the past couple of months, Grace has become more balanced in her seat but still tends to lift her right side out of the saddle. Our target is to even pelvic strength from left to right so that she can ride more evenly for her new young horse.
Side Plank : 30 sec each side
Using this in Grace’s workout is to help even out her strength in her core. She has a tendency to shorten her right side while riding and this teaches the body to engage the core while lengthening the side of the body.
Split Squats: 12 each side
Good for evening out the strength in each hip which is going to help Grace particularly in her right hip.
