Inflammation in Equestrians
And How to Reduce It: By Madeliene Painter
Equestrians are athletes. And with any athlete performance, our bodies are going to face more inflammation than the everyday person. Inflammation can manifest in our body in different ways depending on lifestyle factors such as stress, diet, and physical activity. Other than proper recovery which I will cover in another article, the best way to help fight inflammation is through our diet. Particularly adding more omega-3s.
An anti-inflammatory diet should include these foods:
tomatoes.
olive oil.
green leafy vegetables, such as spinach, kale, and collards.
nuts like almonds and walnuts.
fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, tuna, and sardines.
fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, cherries, and oranges.
The benefits of fish oil are abundant. Studies on fish oils rich in both EPA and DHA have shown they help with lowering blood pressure, reducing triglyceride levels, lowering “bad” cholesterol (LDL) levels while at the same time increasing “good” cholesterol (HDL) levels.
The omega-3 essential fatty acids are also known as “brain food” as they have been shown to improve cognitive functions. The results of clinical studies have shown that they can be used to treat symptoms of ADHD as well as to combat symptoms of depression.
Research on omega-3’s has also shown it to assist with weight management by helping regulate insulin sensitivity as well as keeping cortisol levels moderated. Omega-3 fish oils rich in EPA and DHA have been shown to improve your body’s natural anti-inflammatory response.
They can also be used to reverse the symptoms of many conditions that are triggered by inflammation, such as asthma and psoriasis. Help boost your body’s natural anti-inflammatory response and improve your overall health by supplementing daily with Full-Mega.
If you are not someone who east fatty fish 4-6 days a week, then I would highly recommend a high quality fish oil like Full Mega.
